The Hampton Library in Bridgehampton remains CLOSED

The Library staff returned to the building on Monday, June 1 and began the gargantuan task of pulling the Library back together. It was a joy to see each other in person even if we were all in masks. Checking in 3 months’ worth of Library materials, tracking down our orders of new materials, processing hundreds of magazines and putting all of these items back on the shelves takes a lot of time and energy. Thank you to the staff for working so diligently.

The Library will begin to offer curbside service on Tuesday, June 16. Please feel free to call, chat or email your requests, once those items are available we will contact you to schedule pick up. Library staff are in the building and can take your calls Monday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Masks, gloves, “sneeze guards” and cleaning supplies are the easy part. Reinventing our cozy building to allow for social distancing is a little more difficult and will take a little longer to implement. While we wait for additional health and safety equipment to arrive, the Library will continue to be closed to the public. When we reopen the physical building for public use, we hope that even with PPE, Plexiglas, and social distancing the community feel of the Library will still be evident. We will continue to strive to make the Library the warm and welcoming place it was and will always be. Thank You for your patience.

The Library will continue to monitor its website chat widget:
Monday – Thursday: 10:00 am - 9:00 pm
Friday – Saturday 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
Sundays 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Library staff will be available via telephone:
Monday through Saturday 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
Curbside Pickup Service will be available (begins Tuesday, June 16)
Tuesday – Saturday 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

As we continue to closely monitor the ever evolving COVID-19 situation, The Hampton Library has made the health and safety of our staff and community, our number one priority. We believe it is both important and prudent to follow the guidelines and advisement of our federal, state and local health and safety resources in order to reduce opportunities for community spread.

Effective immediately all Library sponsored programs, group meetings, and community outreach visits are canceled through March 31, 2020.

The Hampton Library is committed to providing Library services to the community and at this time will remain open during our regularly scheduled hours.

We encourage you to use good judgement when using the Library.

  •   If you or a family member is sick, please stay home.

  •   If you are sick and have Library materials checked out, please keep them until you feel better. The Hampton Library does not charge overdue fines.

  •   If you do not have a Library Card now is the time to get one! You will need your library card to enjoy our digital resources: eBooks, eAudiobooks, Flipster Magazines and Kanopy streaming films.

We will continue to monitor the situation and adjust our services as appropriate. Please continue to visit for current and accurate information about COVID-19 and the Library’s response.

We will also continue to provide updates via our eBlasts and social media accounts.

March 12, 2020

The Hampton Library is closely monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. As of now we plan to continue to provide regular services for our community. Rest assured we will make whatever temporary adjustments to our services necessary to ensure the health and safety of our staff and visitors.

The following proactive measures have been taken in an effort to reduce potential transmission of the virus and increase access to credible important information about COVID-19 and how to protect yourself.

For those unable to visit the library, here are some of the many resources that can be accessed from home with your library card.

  •   The Library will have handouts, signage and other “fact sheets” provided by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) available to patrons. The Library’s digital branch: will have a link dedicated to providing accurate and timely information as it pertains to COVID-19.

  •   All service desks have hand sanitizer available for patrons to use. All computers are wiped down after patron use. A Library staff member will be happy to provide a Clorox wipe or wipe the computer again for you at your request.

  •   All restrooms are stocked with soap, paper towels and CDC guidance on proper handwashing procedures.

  •   All Staff are required to wash their hands upon entering and exiting the building. We encourage and provide opportunities for frequent hand washing or sanitizing during their shift.

  •   Staff who do not feel well are encouraged to stay home.

  •   Patrons and staff are temporarily restricted from eating or drinking in the Library. Staff are allowed to consume food and beverage in the staff lounge.

  •   Our cleaning company has put in place protocols which apply an aggressive and rigorous approach to the cleaning of the Library with products that will reduce the spread of the virus.

  •   Library staff have been directed to periodically throughout the day wipe down doorknobs, bannisters, service desks, computers, copiers and other frequently used services. All Library services and work stations are cleaned at the end of the night.

  •   During set up, break down, and between Library programs, meeting room spaces are disinfected with Lysol disinfecting spray and wiped down as needed.

  •   All soft toys (stuffed animals and puppets), toys and “props” which cannot be immediately or adequately cleaned have been removed from the Children’s room and will not be used in Library programs.

  •   All Library items returned to the Library will be disinfected to the best of our ability before being placed back in to the collection.

We implore our community members and Library users to employ common sense when using the Library. Patrons are encouraged to use good hygiene practices such as frequent handwashing and coughing or sneezing into your elbow if a tissue is unavailable.

If you or your child is too sick to go to daycare, school, or work, you are too sick to visit the Library.

Individuals choosing to reduce exposure by limiting their time in public spaces or by self-quarantine are encouraged to use one of the many digital services offered by the Library including: eBooks and eAudiobooks with Libby, Flipster eMagazines, and our Kanopy film collection. Please also explore all of our other online classes, tutorials, databases and language learning software available.

You will need your Hampton Library card to access these items. If you have misplaced your card or do not have one, we are happy to register you over the phone/email and provide your access barcode to you. If you need help accessing these services please do not hesitate to call 631.537.0015 or email We will provide tutorial and reference services to the best of our ability remotely.

We hope you will partner with us in responding to the current health crisis by heeding the warnings and advice of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO) and our local, county, and state health agencies. Together we can prevent community spread.

Please check the Library’s website, social media accounts and emails for important announcements and information moving forward as our programs and hours of operation may change as things develop.
