LINKEDIN LEARNING LIBRARY

From The President’s Desk

Dear Patrons:
The Hampton Library has been a cornerstone of our community for over 140 years. In order to keep up with the evolving needs of our community, the library has undergone several renovations and additions, most recently just over 10 years ago when a large renovation was done on the entire structure. However, prior to the pandemic, we began to realize we were outgrowing certain areas of the library, while also noting a change in how the library was being utilized.

To address these issues, we spent the past few years looking at our spaces, listening to our community, and discussing how to best meet the new and dynamic needs of our patrons. After careful planning and consideration, we are embarking upon an interior renovation of some of our spaces.

Teens, one of our largest demographics of library users, had seriously outgrown the YA space designated for their use. So we will expand the teen section on the main floor to incorporate their entire YA book collection, along with creating flexible spaces for studying and other activities. This creative redesign will enable our YA librarian to have a dedicated desk area as well as areas for maker spaces.

Elsewhere on the main floor, we will be adding quiet work cubicles and more functional desk space for our staff and our executive director. Noise reducing panels will also be added. The Alda Literacy Room will be enlarged to create a more flexible space to accommodate a wide range of increased usage.

On the lower level, the children’s area has been reimagined for better flow and noise reduction. Further, to make up for some of the changes on the main floor, more stacks will be added on the second floor. While the project is estimated to take approximately 9 months, the library will remain open during the renovation so we can continue to serve our community. It’s an exciting next chapter for the Hampton Library; we’re thrilled by the prospect of a more user-friendly library and hope you will consider supporting our efforts by contributing to this capital campaign.

As always, we thank you. And we welcome you to stop by the library and learn about some of our ongoing programs, check out a new book, or chat with any of our friendly staff.

With our gratitude and best wishes,

Louise Collins
President, Board of Trustees
